Dangers of Magnetic Field Therapy

Magnetic field therapy, also called magnetic therapy, an alternative therapy, utilizes magnets in treating a variety of conditions, such as arthritis, migraine headaches, cancer, and moderate levels of pain. While relatively safe, this alternative therapy should not be used by everyone.
  1. Children & Pregnant Women

    • Children and pregnant women should not use magnetic field therapy because the effects of magnetic therapy on children and pregnant women remains unknown.

    Patients with Metal Implants

    • Patients with metal implants, like pacemakers, should avoid magnetic therapy because the magnets used in magnetic therapy can disrupt the function of such implants.

    Positive & Negative Poles

    • Magnets contain positive and negative poles. Utilizing positive poles in magnetic field therapy should only be done by professionals because long term exposure to positive poles can be harmful.

    Warning

    • Magnetic therapy alone is inefficient in treating serious conditions, like cancer and depression. Consult a doctor about what other treatments you should be using with magnetic field therapy.

    Considerations

    • Rare side effects of magnetic therapy include lightheadedness, vomiting, and delayed wound healing.
