How to Rest to Relieve Upper Right Abdominal Pain
-
1
Lay on your left side to avoid placing undue pressure on your painful abdominal area. Remain as still as possible during this time to avoid any unnecessary pain.
-
2
Place a heating pad on a medium setting over the painful area. Do not put the heating pad directly on your skin to avoid burns and skin problems. Instead, place the cover over the heating pad or a towel over your abdomen between you and the heating pad. Leave the heating pad in place for 20 minutes.

3
Place an ice pack over the painful area. Do not put the ice pack directly on the skin. Instead, wrap the ice pack in a towel. Leave the ice pack on the painful area for 20 minutes. If this is uncomfortable, skip this step and simply leave the painful area untouched for 20 minutes.
-
4
Alternate using the ice pack and the heating pad. This will increase circulation to the painful area, stimulating it to heal any injuries or illnesses.
-
5
Take a pain reliever, such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen. Be certain not to take more than the directed amount, even if you do not experience relief. Consult your physician if pain continues and does not lessen.
