Peripheral neuropathy, also called nerve damage, causes a loss of sensation in your body. Nerve damage can improve in time. However, you and your doctor may decide on a treatment, like transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS), to reduce symptoms of the condition.

• During TENS therapy, your physician attaches adhesive electrodes on your skin and you receive gentle electric currents. These currents vary, according to the Mayo Clinic, at different frequencies.
