How to Make a Fentanyl Patch Stick
Fentanyl was developed in 1960 by Dr. Paul Janssen and is used to control chronic breakthrough pain. It is one of the most powerful opioids available for pain management, so the potential for abuse or overdose is a big concern. Development of the Duragesic Transdermal Patch in the 1990s provided a convenient method to deliver the drug in controlled doses every hour for 72 hours. Application of the patch so that it will stick can be achieved with care and a steady hand.Instructions

1
Select an area of skin that is flat and hairless. If applying to a person who does not think clearly, choose an area where it will be difficult to remove, such as the upper back.
-
2
Clip any hair as close to the skin as possible but do not shave the area, which could cause skin damage or irritation.
-
3
Clean the area gently with water only. Do not use alcohol, lotion, soap or oils because they can leave a residue that may cause the patch not to stick as well.
-
4
Remove the Fentanyl patch from the package and peel off the backing, using care not to touch the sticky side of the patch.
-
5
Press the patch firmly onto the cleaned area for at least 30 seconds.
