What Numbers Are on a Lortab?

Lortab is a proprietary or brand name for a combination of hydrocodone and acetaminophen. Due to its popularity, its brand name has come to mean all oral pain medications containing these ingredients, much like "Kleenex" is often used interchangeably for any brand of facial issue. A wide variety of branded names containing these ingredients exist, as well as their generic counterparts, all with different kinds of imprints.

  1. Branded and Generic Imprints

    • Along with Lortab, other brands containing various combinations of hydrocodone and acetaminophen include Anexsia, Co-Gesic, Dolorex Forte, Hycet, Liquicet, Lorcet, Maxidone, Norco, Polygesic, Stagesic, Vicodin, Xodol, Zamicet, Zolvit and Zydone. All of these branded names are available generically and most prescriptions filled by pharmacies are for the generic versions due to insurance co-payments and requirements. Because the combinations of the two drugs vary widely from manufacturer to manufacturer, there are a large number of tablets with different imprints, or identifying stamped symbols, letters or numbers on the pill, tablet or capsule.

      The following sections list numbers found on versions of hydrocodone and acetaminophen, including Lortab, grouped by the primary imprint of the company making that specific generic version. One company might make this medication with five differing amounts combinations of hydrocodone and acetaminophen and will thus have five different numbers. One of these pills is not equivalent to another one. The variety of combinations of hydrocodone and acetaminophen represented in the pills identified below include some formulations that are twice as powerful as others.
