How long does it take for Epiglottitis to kill you?

Untreated, epiglottitis can quickly lead to death. In as little as 24 hours after symptoms begin, the airway can be completely blocked and the person can suffocate. Because epiglottitis can progress so rapidly, it is considered a medical emergency.
