Barium Sulfate Suspension Storage Instructions
Doctors administer or prescribe patients barium sulfate suspension prior to x-rays or CT scans of the gastrointestinal (GI) system. Barium enhances the absorption of x-rays and provides a contrast to allow the person performing the exam to detect abnormalities along the GI tract. Depending on what area of the GI tract your doctors wants an image of, you will either take the suspension just prior to your exam or be sent home with the suspension and instructions for when to take it. If your doctor sends you home with a barium sulfate suspension, you must store it properly.Things You'll Need
