Hiya i just got my appendix ouut a week ago and why do you need them anyway what is it for?
The exact function of the appendix is unknown, but it is thought to play a role in the following:
* Immune function: The lymphoid tissue in the appendix helps to produce antibodies that fight infection.
* Digestion: The appendix may also play a role in the digestion of food by producing enzymes that break down carbohydrates.
* Storage: The appendix may store useful bacteria that can help to maintain a healthy balance of gut flora.
In most cases, the appendix does not cause any problems. However, it can become inflamed, a condition called appendicitis. Appendicitis is a serious medical condition that can lead to life-threatening complications, such as rupture and infection.
If you experience any of the following symptoms, it is important to see a doctor right away:
* Pain in the lower right quadrant of the abdomen
* Nausea and vomiting
* Fever
* Chills
* Diarrhea
* Constipation
* Difficulty passing gas
If you are diagnosed with appendicitis, you will need to have surgery to remove the appendix. This is a relatively simple surgery that can be performed laparoscopically, through small incisions in the abdomen.
After surgery, you will need to stay in the hospital for a few days to recover. You will also need to take antibiotics to prevent infection. Most people make a full recovery from appendicitis and are able to return to their normal activities within a few weeks.
