Musculoskeletal Medications
There are a number of genetic and health conditions that affect the musculoskeletal system. The musculoskeletal system can best be described as the combined tissues of the muscular and skeletal systems. Pain that comes from this system may be addressed by a number of medications.-
Basics
-
General conditions that involve the musculoskeletal system include arthritis and osteoporosis. Both conditions involve pain in joints, bones, muscles and nerves in the musculoskeletal systems.
How
-
Medications try to block the pain from being registered by the nerve cells. Medications like aspirin block nerve signals, allowing the patient to go about her day without being in pain.
Considerations
-
Other medications are needed to cure or hinder the progression of certain musculoskeletal conditions. More serious conditions like cerebral palsy or multiple sclerosis utilize medicines like dantrolene. Dantrolene turns off nervous reactions that either contract or relax muscles to comfortable levels in those respective conditions.
