Difference Between Metadate CD & Metadate ER
When someone suffers from the symptoms of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, a psychostimulant medication may be necessary to help address the problem. One medication a doctor may prescribe for this purpose is Metadate.-
Benefits
-
Metadate CD and ER, the brand names for extended-release methylphenidate, which may also be used to treat narcolepsy or taken in conjunction with antidepressants, helps people with ADHD remain focused on tasks, increase their attention span and limit impulsivity and hyperactivity.
Metadate CD
-
Metadate CD offers an immediate release of methylphenidate. The drug is incorporated into two types of beads. One bead releases the drug on ingestion and the second bead provides a sustained release of methyphenidate lasting eight hours.
Metadate ER
-
Metadate ER does not provide an immediate release of methylphenidate. Through a slow release lasting approximately eight hours, it provides the same daily dose as the CD version. However, it may take two to three hours to see any effects of the drug, a potential problem for school-aged children.
