Bactrim DS Safety
Bactrim DS is a sulfonamide and is composed of sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim. It is commonly used to treat urinary tract infections, ear infections in children and chronic bronchitis in adults. As with any drug, Bactrim DS should be used with caution.-

Warnings

You should not use Bactrim DS if you are pregnant or breast-feeding, if you are anemic due to folic acid deficiency or if you are allergic to sulfamethoxazole or trimethoprim. Advise your doctor if you have AIDS, kidney or liver disease, asthma, severe allergies or if you are malnourished.
Side Effects and Allergic Reactions

The most common side effects of Bactrim DS include nausea, vomiting, anorexia, headache, aching joints and shortness of breath. An allergic reaction is indicated by itching, hives, swelling of hands or face, tingling in the mouth or throat, tightness in chest and difficulty breathing.
Drug Interactions

Nine major drugs interact negatively with Bactrim DS. They include warfarin, cyclosporine, methotrexate, anisindione, dicumarol, Fusilev, dicumarol, potassium aminobenzoate and dofetilide.
