Is Viagra Safe to Take When You Have Seizures?
Epilepsy experts and medical journals do not link Viagra to seizures in epileptic men. There are a small number of recorded cases of healthy, non-epileptic men experiencing seizures after taking erectile dysfunction drugs.-
Seizure Listed as 'Other Event'
-
Sildenafil is the generic name for Viagra, Revatio and other erectile dysfunction drugs. Viagra's official drug label lists "seizure" and "seizure recurrence" among "Other Events" associated with the drug.
Can Viagra Cause Seizures?
-
The British Medical Journal reported in 2002 and 2006 on several incidents of healthy men experiencing seizures after taking elevated doses of sildenafil.
Combining Drugs
-
The physician/pharmacist editors of Epilepsy.com say Viagra is safe for epilepsy patients. However, the Medline Plus database cautions patients who take certain seizure-prevention drugs to tell their doctors about the other medications before taking sildenafil.
Heart Medication Warning
-
If you take certain heart drugs for problems like angina or heart failure, you should not mix them with sildenafil. The group of drugs known as vasodilators, which widen the blood vessels by relaxing the smooth muscle cells in arteries, are not recommended for use with sildenafil.
