Early Signs of Digoxin Toxicity

Digoxin is a prescription drug that is sold under the Digitek, Lanoxin and Cardoxin brand names. This drug is used to treat heart rhythm disorders and congestive heart failure. Toxicity can occur with a drug overdose or an allergic reaction.
  1. Gastrointestinal Signs

    • According to Drugs.com, an overdose of digoxin can cause vomiting, diarrhea or nausea. Loss of appetite may also develop after a patient consumes a large dose of digoxin.

    Vision Effects

    • People who overdose on digoxin may experience blurred vision or they may see halos surrounding lights and other objects.

    Heart Effects

    • Patients may develop heart rhythms that are slow, fast or uneven after consuming a large dose of digoxin.

    Other Effects

    • Individuals may feel as if they will pass out or they may develop a severe skin rash after an overdose of digoxin.

    Allergic Reactions

    • An allergic reaction to digoxin may cause difficulties with breathing as well as swelling of the throat, lips or face.
