Remicade Treatment for Crohn's

Remicade is a prescription medication used for the treatment of Crohn's disease and is prescribed when other medications are not successful. In addition, it is used to treat rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, ulcerative colitis, and severe plaque psoriasis.

• Remicade is utilized in the treatment of inflammatory disorders having to do with the immune system. It works to reduce inflammation and greatly decrease painful symptoms associated with Crohn's disease. Remicade can be used in adults and children ages 6 and older.

How To Take

• Remicade is received through an IV and must be administered at a doctor's office or hospital. One treatment takes 2 hours to receive and treatments are given every 8 weeks.

Side Effects

• Some of the more common side effects of Remicade treatments are nausea, vomiting, chills, dizziness, fever, and hives. Any side effects should be reported to a doctor.

Warnings

• Remicade treaments can lower white blood cell count. It also can lead to an increased risk of cancer and infection.

Cost

• One Remicade treatment can cost between $1,000 and $2,500. Most insurance carriers cover part or all of the cost.
