Miralax Dose in Children
MiraLAX, also known by its generic name of polyethylene glycol, is an osmotic laxative that pulls water into your child's stools to produce softer, more frequent bowel movements.-
Preparation
-
Before giving MiraLAX powder, mix it in 8 ounces of a clear beverage like water or juice to create a solution.
Dose
-
MiraLAX doses are individually calculated based on your child's weight. The doctor uses a table to prescribe the right amount of medicine. The doses range from 2 ounces twice a day for a child who weighs 10 kg (22 pounds) to 8 ounces once a day for a child who weighs over 50 kg (110 pounds).
Time Frame
-
It can take two to four days before your child has a bowel movement from his MiraLAX, so don't give additional doses to speed the process along.
Considerations
-
As long as your child is having one to two soft stools a day, continue the same dose of MiraLAX.
Tip
-
It's best to give your child her MiraLAX first thing in the morning, either before, during or after breakfast so it has time to work during the day when she's up and around. If she needs two doses each day, give one first thing in the morning and the second in the evening.
