The Disadvantages of GNRH

Gonadotropin-releasing hormone or GnRH is a chemical that is produced by the pituitary gland and is related to hormone production in both men and women. GnRH is sent to the genitals of people and aids in the production of FSH and and LH which are hormones that aid in the development and maturation of natural sex organs. LH in particular helps in the process of ovulation in women while in men it helps in the production of sperm cells.
  1. Menopausal Type Symptoms

    • Women taking GnRH supplements often have side effects that seem similar to menopause. Taking GnRH leads to a lowering of estrogen levels in the body and this in turn makes the body behave as if it is going through menopause. Some of the possible symptoms include decreased libido, headaches, mood swings and either decreased or increased breast size. Dizziness, muscle pains and depression are also common side effects and disadvantages of GnRH.

    Bone Thinning

    • Bone thinning is a disadvantage of taking GnRH. Bone thinning can occur all over the body, but it happens most commonly in the spine. Bone fibers are constantly breaking down and then regenerating in a normal human body, but the reduction of estrogen caused by taking GnRH thins the bones in the body.

    Nose Irritation

    • GnRH can cause nose irritation in patients who receive the drug with a nasal pump. This can mean sneezing and runny nose as well as stuffy nose and a little pain. In rare cases the pump can cause bruising at the site of insertion.

    Breast feeding & Pregnancy

    • When a woman is taking GnRH supplements she should not breast feed. And women who are pregnant should not take the GnRH supplements. These drugs are not supposed to be taken by infants and all attempts to avoid their consumption should be taken.
