Instructions

    • 1

Read the dosage instructions on your prescription bottle, and follow these instructions precisely. Your doctor will prescribe an amount suitable to your condition. Taking more of the medicine or more frequent doses will not cure your condition faster.

    • 2

Swallow the tablet with 8 ounces of water, or, if your doctor prescribed the liquid suspension, measure the required amount in the measuring spoon included with your prescription. If you experience an upset stomach, you can take the antibiotic with food or milk.

    • 3

Space your doses evenly throughout the day. If your doctor prescribed two daily doses, take them every 12 hours. If your doctor prescribed three daily doses, take them every eight hours. Antibiotics are most effective when there is a constant level in your body. If you forget to take your medicine, take it as soon as you remember. If, however, it is close to the time for the next dose, skip your missed dose and resume your regular schedule. Never double the dose of the antibiotic.

    • 4

Continue taking the prescribed amount until you finish your prescription. Do not stop taking the antibiotic as soon as your symptoms disappear.
