Tricor Strengths
Tricor, a product of major pharmaceutical manufacturer Abbott Laboratories, is used to reduce cholesterol and trygliceride levels. Its generic name is fenofibrate and it is not related to other well-known statin drugs that are used for the same purpose. Tricor tablets are available in two different dosages: 48 mg and 145 mg.-
Ingredients and Appearance of 48 mg Tablets

Tricor 48 mg tablets contain 48 mg of fenofibrate, in a tablet made of hypromellose 2910, docusate sodium, sucrose, sodium lauryl sulfate, lactose monohydrate, silicified microcrystalline cellulose, crospovidone and magnesium stearate. These tablets also include polyvinyl alcohol, titanium dioxide, soybean lecithin, xanthan gum and the following coloring agents: D and C Yellow #10 Aluminum Lake, FD&C (food grade) Yellow #6 (or sunset yellow) FCF aluminum lake and FD&C Blue #2 (or indigo carmine lake). They are yellow in color.

Tricor 145 mg tablets contain 145 mg of fenofibrate, in a tablet made of hypromellose 2910, docusate sodium, sucrose, sodium lauryl sulfate, lactose monohydrate, silicified microcrystalline cellulose, crospovidone and magnesium stearate. These tablets also include polyvinyl alcohol, titanium dioxide, soybean lecithin and xanthan gum, with no additional coloring agents. They are white in color.
Uses (Indications) for 48 mg Tablets

The 48 milligram tablets, when taken once daily, can be used for initial treatment of adults with high triglyceride levels (hypertriglyceridemia). Single daily dosages of this strength of Tricor are also recommended for initial treatment of high cholesterol or mixed high cholesterol and tryglicerides in patients who suffer from insufficient kidney function.
Uses (Indications) for 145 mg Tablets

A 145 mg dosage of Tricor can also be used for initial treatment of high triglyceride levels, depending on how the patient responds to this dosage. It is the dosage of choice for treatment of high cholesterol or mixed high cholesterol and triglycerides, except when kidney function is depressed.
