How was stickler syndrome discovered?
The Stickler syndrome was first described in 1965 by German ophthalmologist Gunnar B. Stickler and colleagues in a single family.[4] In 1967, another family was reported exhibiting this set of characteristics. The condition was termed the "hereditary progressive arthro-ophthalmopathy (HPAO)" by Dr. Beals in 1972 who first recognized Stickler syndrome as an autosomal dominant condition.[5] The term "Stickler syndrome" became more prominent during the 1990s.[4]
