What is manieres disease?
Maniere's disease is a rare condition characterized by sudden attacks of vertigo, accompanied by hearing loss, tinnitus (ringing in the ears) and low frequencies in the affected ear. The exact cause of Maniere's disease is unknown, but it is thought to be related to a buildup of fluid in the inner ear. Symptoms of Maniere's disease can include:
- Sudden attacks of vertigo that can last for several hours
- Hearing loss that may be permanent or temporary
- Tinnitus (ringing in the ears)
- A feeling of pressure or fullness in the ear
- Nausea and vomiting
- Sweating
- Headache
- Anxiety
Treatment for Maniere's disease typically involves medications to reduce the symptoms of vertigo and hearing loss. Surgery may be necessary in some cases to relieve the pressure caused by the buildup of fluid in the inner ear.
