What disease in the UK have high incidence but low prevalence?

Measles.

Measles is a highly infectious viral illness. It can be very unpleasant, but most people recover completely in a couple of weeks. Serious problems, such as pneumonia (infection of the lungs) and encephalitis (infection of the brain), are rare.

It is still common in many developing countries, but vaccination programmes in the UK have reduced the number of cases significantly since the early 1980s. Before the introduction of the MMR vaccine in 1988, around 150,000 cases were notified in England and Wales each year, and around 10 people died.

Most cases in the UK now occur in people who have not been vaccinated – either because they are too young to have had both doses of the vaccine, or because they have not had any doses.
