What Is a Drool Rash?
A drool rash is a type of skin irritation that is caused by excessive saliva. It is most common in babies and toddlers, but can also occur in adults. Drool rash is also known as perioral dermatitis, or napkin rash.
Symptoms of drool rash include:
* Redness and irritation around the mouth and chin
* Dry, flaky skin
* Cracking and peeling skin
* Blisters
* Oozing sores
Drool rash can be uncomfortable and itchy, and it can also make it difficult for your child to eat and drink.
Treatment for drool rash typically involves:
* Keeping the affected area clean and dry
* Applying a moisturizer to the affected area
* Using a barrier cream to protect the skin from further irritation
* Avoiding triggers, such as certain foods or activities that cause your child to drool excessively
* If the drool rash is severe, your child may need to be prescribed a topical or oral medication.
Drool rash usually clears up within a few weeks with treatment. However, it can sometimes be a chronic condition that requires ongoing management.
