What causes a leaky rash?

There are multiple conditions that may cause a "leaky rash".

Allergic reactions. Hives, also called urticaria, are a common allergic reaction that can cause a red, itchy rash that may ooze fluid. Hives can be caused by a variety of allergens, including foods, insect bites, medications, and latex.

Contact dermatitis. This type of rash is caused by direct contact with an allergen or irritant, such as poison ivy, detergents, or jewelry. Contact dermatitis can cause a red, itchy rash that may blister or peel.

Eczema. Atopic dermatitis, also known as eczema, is a chronic skin condition that causes red, dry, itchy skin. Eczema can also cause a leaky rash, especially in severe cases.

Infections. Some infections, such as chickenpox, measles, and scarlet fever, can cause a rash that leaks fluid. Infectious rashes are often accompanied by other symptoms, such as fever, cough, and sore throat.

Medication side effects. Certain medications, such as penicillin and other antibiotics, can cause a rash as a side effect. Drug-induced rashes can range from mild to severe and may or may not be leaky.

Vasculitis. This group of conditions causes inflammation of the blood vessels. Some forms of vasculitis, such as Henoch-Schonlein purpura, can cause a rash that leaks fluid. Vasculitis can also affect other organs in the body.
