Yes, anthrax can produce lesions on the skin. Cutaneous anthrax is the most common form of anthrax and is caused by direct contact of anthrax spores with a cut or abrasion on the skin. The initial lesion is a small, painless bump that resembles an insect bite. Within a few days, the bump develops into a black, necrotic eschar surrounded by a ring of red, swollen tissue. The eschar eventually sloughs off, leaving a deep ulcer that can take weeks or months to heal.
