How to Clear Stubborn Diaper Rashes
Diaper rashes in infants are a common skin affliction. Diaper rashes can be the result of many causes, such as irritation due to stool enzymes, yeast and friction from the diaper. Rashes on your infant can come and go. Infants who have sensitive skin can also be more prone to diaper rashes. While diaper rashes will clear on their own, rashes that don't clear within a few days with treatment should be seen by a physician.Things You'll Need
- Zinc oxide baby ointment
- Hand towel
- Corn starch
- Non-scented baby wipes

1
See a pediatrician to determine if your baby is suffering from a yeast infection. Your child's pediatrician will prescribe an anti-fungal medication that will clear the rash.
-
2
Use a diaper cream that consists mostly of zinc oxide. According to the Mayo Clinic, diaper creams containing zinc oxide "can also be used to prevent diaper rashes."
-
3
Allow your baby to go without a diaper for a few minutes during the day. If your baby doesn't yet walk, place a hand towel under her in case of an accident.
-
4
Use cornstarch instead of baby powder. Baby powders contain scented perfumes and talcum, which can be an irritant to your baby's lungs if he inhales the powder. Corn starch works just as well on your baby's bum to help draw out excess moisture.
-
5
Change diapers quickly after your baby urinates or has a bowel movement. Thoroughly clean your baby before placing a new diaper on her.
-
6
Use a different brand of diaper. If your baby has sensitive skin, find a brand of diapers that will cause less friction on his bottom.
-
7
Use a bulb syringe to help remove stool from your baby's bottom, especially if the affected area is sore and causing her pain. If your baby is willing, use a blow dryer on the lowest setting to dry her.
