How to Treat Yeast Infections in Children
A yeast infection specifically refers to an infection caused by yeast in the Candida genus, especially Candida albicans. This organism normally inhabits the skin of humans without producing any symptoms. However, it can occasionally cause an infection in newborns due to their compromised immune system. In these cases, a Candida infection may also be called oral thrush or Candida diaper rash. You can treat yeast infections in children primarily with antibiotics and supportive treatment.Things You'll Need

1
Treat yeast infections in children with nystatin. Nystatin is sold under brand names that include Mycostatin, Mycostatin Filmlok, Mycostatin Pastilles, Nystat-Rx, Nystop, and Pedi-Dri.
-
2
Use specific preparations of nystatin according to the specific location of the yeast infection. You may treat an immunocompromised child with nystatin pills. Yeast infections in the vagina or anus can be treated with a suppository of nystatin. Oral thrush may be treated with medicated mouthwashes or lozenges that contain nystatin.

3
Change diapers more frequently. Newborns with diaper rash due to a yeast infection may need to have their diapers changed more often than otherwise necessary to keep the skin dry. This is helpful for fighting yeast infections because yeast favor moist conditions.

4
Clean the baby's skin gently with mild soap and water. Rinse the skin and pat it dry. You can use cornstarch for a mild diaper rash, but you should refrain from using cornstarch with severe diaper rash. In these cases, the cornstarch could enter the body through breaks in the skin.

5
Use cloth diapers for babies with yeast infections. Disposable diapers with a high-absorbency can help keep the skin dry but you should avoid the use of plastic pants as they will prevent air from circulating over the skin.
