Oatmeal as a Home Remedy for Skin Rash
Oatmeal can be used for curing skin irritations as well as make a nice breakfast food. Oatmeal is hypoallergenic, softens the skin and is clinically proven to heal dryness and itchiness. If you need a cure for skin rash, try a natural oatmeal concoction.-
Oatmeal-Based Lotions
-
Skin rashes are often the result of excessive dryness or allergic reaction. Some commercial lotions with fragrance or exotic ingredients can cause a rash. Moisturize often with an oatmeal-based moisturizer to get rid of a stubborn rash. Oatmeal is water binding, meaning it can help you retain moisture. Add wet, rolled oats to your favorite unscented lotion.
Oatmeal Bath
-
Add ½ cup of rolled oats, ¼ cup of powdered milk and 2 tsp. of honey to a muslin cloth and tie it tightly. Toss the muslin into your warm bathwater, and allow it to sit for a moment before you get into the tub. Do this twice a week until the rash diminishes or disappears. In order to prevent over-drying, only rinse the oatmeal off with water and try not to use soap too often on the skin. Soap has harsh drying agents that can aggravate already irritated skin.
Ground Oatmeal
-
Use ground oatmeal with essential oils as a preventative measure. Apply ground oatmeal to a regular bath to soothe and pamper your skin and prevent dryness. You can do this as often as you like, as oatmeal is not a pore clogging grain, as long as you thoroughly rinse after use. To get fine ground oatmeal use a coffee grinder to pulverize the oats. Ground oatmeal can also be added to lotions and face masks. Try a honey and oatmeal mask to soothe rashes on the face. Take 1/3 cup of quick oats, ¼ cup of honey and ¼ cup of water and mix well. Spread this mixture on the face and sit for at least five minutes but no more than 10. Rinse well, and if you have oily skin wash the face with a mild cleanser.
