A Home Remedy for Butt Rash

A red, swollen bumpy bottom means that you or your baby has a butt rash. This uncomfortable ailment typically results from too much moisture in the area or from a hormonal imbalance. You don't need a doctor's prescription or over-the-counter medications to heal a butt rash. You can sooth and heal the rash using natural, nontoxic products found in your own home. If the rash is bleeding, extremely swollen or gets worse after treatment, seek a doctor's care.
  1. Cornstarch

    • Cornstarch is a powerful carbohydrate typically used for cooking and is also great for curing butt rash. Its anti-moisture properties help to dry irritated skin and allow healing. Moms have been using cornstarch as a safe and effective alternative to over-the-counter diaper rash cream for decades. It's also a great treatment for sunburns, hives, general skin irritations and poison ivy.

Luckily, cornstarch is readily available at your local grocery store. Mix ¼ cup of cornstarch with 3 tablespoons of water and mix until thick. Apply gently to rash and leave uncovered. Sprinkle dry cornstarch directly onto affected area as the mixture dries to seal the paste. Dry cornstarch can also be used directly on sore skin because it has a soft, velvety feel and won't irritate skin.

    Olive Oil and Shea Butter

    • Pure Shea butter and olive oil are a soothing combination for butt rash healing. Both compounds have healing, vitamin enriched anti-inflammatory oils that will bring relief to your rash.

Shea butter contains vitamin A, which moisturizes the skin; and nonsaponifiable fraction, a healing agent. This healing agent contains phytonutrients, vitamins and nutrients. Shea butter is typically sold in health food stores.

Olive oil contributes to the mixture because it contains skin healing compounds and you can expect relief almost instantly. Mix 3/4 cup of Shea butter with 1/4 cup of olive oil to create a paste. Apply gently to rash and allow to air dry.

    Calendula-Comfrey Diaper Ointment

    • Another soothing natural remedy is to create a calendula-comfrey paste for your butt rash. Mix with coconut oil for extra softness--you'll find quick relief.

Comfrey leaves contain compounds such as allanton, rosmarinic acid and tannins which promote skin regeneration. Calendula's plant-based antioxidants assist in protecting the skin against free radicals and promote healing. Both calendula and comfrey are sold at local health food stores.

Melt one pound of coconut oil in a stainless steel pan. Add two handfuls of calendula petals and one handful of comfrey leaves. Simmer on low for 30 minutes to create a paste. Do not burn the leaves.
