Psoriasis Healing Diet

Sugars and Starches
-
Most psoriasis healing diets, in particular one of the most well-known authored by Dr. Pagano in his book "Healing Psoriasis: The Natural Alternative" recommend reducing grains and sugars that come in the form of starchy and/or processed foods. This means eliminating anything made with white processed flour, such as rice, white bread and potatoes. Whole wheat breads, cereals, pastas and brown rice are acceptable substitutes. Dr. Pagano also recommends avoiding any food with "sugar" listed in its list of ingredients. Replace cane sugar with honey if it is necessary to sweeten your food or drink.
Omega-3
-
Beef up your diet with foods that are naturally rich in Omega-3 fatty acids. Fish oils, red palm oils, flaxseed oil, hemp seed oil, egg yolks and red palm oil are great sources of fats that contain Omega-3. These types of oils are readily available at natural food stores.
Fruits and Vegetables
-
Most psoriasis healing diets recommend avoiding canned fruits and vegetables, and instead opt for fresh or cooked, especially when it comes to your greens. Carrots and celery are recommended as foods that should be ingested daily, with no limit as to the quantities.
Fluids
-
All diets that work to improve psoriasis are in agreement that the more water one consumes where psoriasis is concerned, the better. As a guideline, it is recommended that people drink at least six to eight glasses of 8 oz. water glasses every day. Additional beverages, with the exception of ones containing caffeine, are also recommended.
Psoriasis Diet Don'ts
-
There are many foods that are commonly considered forbidden when it comes to healing psoriasis. The list includes red meats as well as processed meats, such as pepperoni or sausage. Lamb is considered an acceptable meat, as is chicken and fish. Carbonated regular and diet sodas, alcohol and anything with caffeine are definite no-nos.
Dairy
-
Dairy, including eggs, are considered acceptable in small quantities. It is recommended that low or non-fat versions be consumed instead of higher or whole milk versions. This applies to all things dairy, including, milk, butter, cheese and yogurt.
