Scabies Cures

Scabies is caused by a small (invisible to the naked eye) mite that enters the skin. The symptoms are intense itching and small bumps and tunnels under the skin. Treatment consists of first killing the mite and, if necessary, using antihistamines and other anti-itch medicine to combat the persisting itch.
  1. Features

    • Scabies is caused by a tiny mite that burrows under the skin. Scabies can only be cured by killing this mite.

    Cures

    • Lotions containing permethrin or crotamiton are the most common scabies cures, according to the Mayo clinic.

    Effects

    • Even after the mites are dead, intense itching may persist for a few weeks. Antihistamines and anti-itch lotions can be used to alleviate this itch.

    Prevention/Solution

    • After a person has been cured of scabies, he or she can get it again if the mite is not eliminated from the home. All fabrics that may harbor remaining mites should be thoroughly washed.

    Considerations

    • Scabies is easily passed from person to person. All household members may need to be treated at the same time.
