Home Remedies for Jock Itch

Jock itch is a fungal infection of the skin that has a tendency to affect men more than women. It appears most often in areas of the body that are warm and moist, such as the genitals, groin and thighs. Those who are overweight or who have a tendency to sweat profusely are more prone to suffering from this condition. For those who do not like taking prescription medications, there are home remedies that can be used to treat jock itch.
  1. Anti-Dandruff Shampoo

    • Many of these shampoos contain anti-fungal chemical compounds and can help heal any blisters or sores that may result from jock itch.

    Garlic

    • Garlic is thought to have anti-fungal qualities. Adding it to your food or rubbing it on the affected area of the skin may help treat jock itch.

    Diet

    • Fungi loves sugar, so your jock itch may be relieved by cutting out refined carbohydrates and foods with high sugar content. It may also be to your benefit to avoid alcohol, since it converts into sugar in the body.

    Tea Tree Oil

    • Tea tree oil is a natural anti-fungal and can be applied twice a day to the affected area. You can find it in any health food store.

    Wear Loose Clothes

    • Wearing loose clothing allows for air to flow through an area that can easily trap heat and moisture--the two variables responsible for the growth of fungi.

    Considerations

    • While jock itch only causes discomfort, if left untreated it can become severe and lead to skin breakdown. Home remedies may not work for everyone, and if your condition does not improve, seek the advice of a doctor.
