Can you have bronchitis with little or no cough I started out a stuffy nose and slight sore throat chest congestion But dr said lungs sounded clear so am confused?
It is possible to have bronchitis with little or no cough. This is known as "silent bronchitis" or "inapparent bronchitis." It is more common in older adults and people with weakened immune systems.
Symptoms of silent bronchitis may include:
- Chest tightness
- Shortness of breath
- Wheezing
- Fatigue
- Malaise
- Low-grade fever
- Productive cough (in some cases)
If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, it is important to see your doctor to rule out other possible causes, such as pneumonia or asthma. Your doctor may order a chest X-ray or other tests to confirm a diagnosis of bronchitis.
Silent bronchitis is usually treated with antibiotics and rest. In some cases, oxygen therapy may be necessary. Most people with silent bronchitis recover completely within a few weeks.
