Is the windpipe and trachea are different parts of respiratory system?

The trachea is commonly referred to as the windpipe. These terms refer to the same anatomical structure. The trachea is flexible, cylindrical, and tube-like. It consists of cartilaginous rings and is lined by ciliated mucous membranes. The trachea's main function is to facilitate the passage of air between the larynx (voice box) and the lungs during the processes of breathing (inhalation and exhalation). So, the trachea and the windpipe are essentially the same anatomical structure, without a distinct difference.
