For the past two weeks been getting hiccups a lot but I never used to. What should do?
Here are some tips to help you get rid of hiccups:
- Hold your breath: Take a deep breath and hold it for as long as you can. Repeat this several times.
- Drink water: Drink a glass of cold water quickly, taking small sips.
- Gargle with water: Gargle with warm or cold water for a few minutes.

- Breathe into a paper bag: Place a paper bag over your nose and mouth and breathe into it slowly for a few minutes.
- Acupressure: Press on the acupressure point between your thumb and forefinger for a few minutes.
- Massage your diaphragm: Gently massage the area below your rib cage to relax the diaphragm.
- Try a distraction: Focus on something else, such as watching TV or talking to someone, to distract yourself from the hiccups.
- Avoid triggers: If you know what triggers your hiccups, try to avoid them. Common triggers include eating or drinking too quickly, smoking, and drinking carbonated beverages.
- Try over-the-counter medications: If the hiccups persist for more than 48 hours, talk to your doctor. They may recommend over-the-counter medications, such as antihistamines or antacids.
