What type of epithelial tissue lines the respiratory tract?

The respiratory tract is lined by pseudostratified ciliated columnar epithelium with goblet cells. This type of epithelium consists of multiple layers of cells, but only the superficial cells reach the surface and are ciliated. The goblet cells secrete mucus, which helps to trap dust and other particles. The cilia move the mucus upwards, towards the throat, where it can be swallowed or coughed up. The lining of the respiratory tract is constantly renewed to replace cells that are damaged by dust, pollution, and other factors.
