Guide to Symbols
-
1
Review and understand the symbols on the Nonin 2500 pulse oximeter before using it. The heart symbol is indicative of pulse rate, "%Sp02" means percent oxygen saturation, the slope symbol indicates pulse quality via a tricolor LED, and the battery symbol indicates a low battery.
-
2
Note the front panel switches. The round button on the front center panel is the "On/Off" switch. The button to its right is the "Advance" switch. The low-battery light left of the On/Off switch. The LED screen covers the top third of the Nonin 2500 PalmSAT.
-
3
Find the sensor, and plug it into the pulse oximeter with the Nonin logo facing up. The sensor connector is at the top center of the pulse oximeter. Make sure the sensor is firmly seated. Turn on the pulse oximeter by pressing the On/Off switch. Allow the device to complete a self-test. The Nonin 2500 will cycle through initialization before displaying dashes in the %Sp02 and Pulse Rate windows.
-
4
Place the pulse oximeter sensor on the patient's finger for at least 10 seconds. If the %Sp02 and Pulse sensor lights are blinking, reposition the sensor on afinger. Values should appear and stay constant. If dashes appear in place of values, reposition the sensor again or place it on another finger. When values appear, the Nonin 2500 pulse oximeter has detected correct Sp02 and pulse rate.
-
5
Remove the sensor and clean it with an isopropyl alcohol wipe, and dry with a soft cloth. Never spray or pour cleaners on the sensor or the pulse oximeter. Turn off the Nonin 2500 and wipe it down with a clean, dry cloth. Store the unit until it is next needed.
