How to Adjust a REMstar

Sleep apnea is a serious medical condition which can cause serious injury or even death if not properly treated. A doctor-prescribed breathing apparatus may help sleep apnea sufferers by helping to regulate their breathing during sleep. One type of this device is the REMstar line of products from Philips. They may be adjusted by the user to allow for maximum comfort and effectiveness. In a few steps, you can adjust a REMstar.

Instructions

      Ensure that the REMstar's vents are clear from all surrounding fabric or objects that could block airflow.

      Connect the REMstar's AC power cord into a wall outlet.

      Connect the flexible tubing to the outlet on the front of the REMstar.

      Connect the opposite end of the flexible tubing to the mask.

      Connect the mask to the headgear.

      Put on the mask and headgear and tighten the straps at either side to your desired tension.

      Take four breaths. If the REMstar does not automatically turn on, press the "Pressure On/Off" button on top of the unit.

      Press the humidifier button on top of the REMstar if a prescribed humidifier is attached.

      Lay down and adjust the flexible tubing so it is unobstructed and comfortable while you sleep.

      Adjust the straps on the mask so they are tight enough that no air leaks into your eyes.

      Press the "Ramp" button to reduce pressure while you fall asleep. This button will cause the REMstar to gradually build up to its prescribed pressure as you fall asleep.

      Remove the mask and press the "Pressure On/Off" button if the REMstar does not automatically turn off within two minutes.
