How to Shut Off the Ramp Settings on a Respironics Auto M

Obstructive sleep apnea is a condition under which the soft tissue in a person's throat temporarily collapses and blocks airflow during sleep. The brain, starved for oxygen, briefly wakes up the body to start breathing again, which results in poor sleep quality, as numerous apnea episodes can occur each night. A patient can wear a continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) device to blow air through a nasal tube or air mask to keep the airway open. There is a ramp feature on the Respironics Auto M CPAP device that a patient can press to temporarily decrease the air pressure to make it more comfortable to get to sleep.

Instructions

    • 1

Plug the Auto M's power cord into the power supply and plug the power supply into an electrical outlet.

    • 2

Press the "Left" and "Right" arrow buttons and hold them while simultaneously plugging the power supply into the Auto M. Wait for the unit to beep twice, indicating it is in "Provider" mode, and then release the buttons. The "Provider Mode Standby" menu will appear on the display.

    • 3

Press the "Plus" button to access the "Provider Setup" menu, and then press the "Left" or "Right" arrow buttons to access the "Provider Data" menu.

    • 4

Press the "Right" arrow button repeatedly to navigate to the "Ramp Start Pres" screen. Press the "Plus" button to increase the ramp pressure setting to the patient's prescribed therapeutic CPAP air pressure. For example, if the doctor prescribed an air pressure of 12, when the patient presses the ramp button, the pressure will temporarily be set to a default of 4, providing a lower pressure while drifting off to sleep, and then ramp back up to the prescribed pressure of 12 in a half hour.

    • 5

Press the "Start/Stop" button to save the setting change, exit "Provider" mode and return to "User" mode.
