Uses for Honeybush Tea

Honeybush tea is indigenous to South Africa. An herbal tea with a pleasant flavor, honeybush is thought to have healing properties as well. Not all species of honeybush are the same, so one species may not exhibit the traits of another, but research studies suggest that honeybush tea can serve as a partial remedy to a number of illnesses and ailments.
  1. Nutrition

    • Honeybush tea contains trace amounts of nutrients such as iron, potassium, calcium and magnesium -- all essential for bodily functions including oxygen transport and metabolic processes. It contains antioxidants, which are useful for maintaining the general good health of the body's cells. The herbal tea has a low tannin content and contains no caffeine. Because of this, the tea may be valuable for patients with heart problems or other conditions prohibiting them from consuming caffeine and other stimulants.

    Taste

    • There are many descriptions given to how honeybush tea tastes. Drinkers should not add milk or sugar -- for the sake of taste. A squeeze of honey will bring out the tea's natural notes. The mild sweetness of the tea is owed to its floral bouquet.

    Remedies

    • Health studies suggest that honeybush tea is a known remedy against symptoms of menopause and that it has been used as a tonic for cold and flu viruses. As an expectorant, it's also been known to relieve respiratory difficulties, most likely contributing to its reputation as a calming beverage.
