Nebulizer Machine Instructions

People who suffer from asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) or other respiratory problems, often use a machine called a nebulizer. For a patient using a nebulizer machine, medication needs to get into their lungs. The nebulizer allows the patient to breathe in their medication so their breathing becomes stable and less erratic. Compressed air and oxygen are blasted through liquid medication at a high rate of speed. The machine turns the medication into a mist allowing the patient to breathe it in. The nebulizer breathing machine can look a bit intimidating, but nebulizer machine instructions are simple and easy to follow.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the nebulizer machine on a flat surface near an electrical socket. The machine should be sitting on a level surface like a table so the air can flow properly.

    • 2

Be sure that you have all of the parts of the nebulizer machine. It should come with a mouthpiece, medicine cup, a compressor and a tube.

    • 3

Connect one end of the tube to the machine's air compressor and the other end to the mouthpiece.

    • 4

Pour the liquid medicine into the nebulizer's medicine cup. Make sure you follow your doctor's instructions about how much medication to use.

    • 5

Plug the nebulizer machine in and turn the air compressor on. When the machine is on, you should see vapors coming out of the mouthpiece.

    • 6

Place the mouthpiece into your mouth and make a seal around it with your lips.

    • 7

Breathe normally with the mouthpiece in your mouth for about 10 to 15 minutes, or however long is recommended by your doctor. The nebulizer should be used for however long it takes for the medicine to vaporize.

    • 8

Turn off the air compressor, remove the mouthpiece and clean out the medicine cup so it can used for your next treatment.
