How to Use Nasal Steroids With CPAP

People suffering from upper airway obstruction, or sleep apnea, are often prescribed a CPAP device for treatment. This medical instrument helps keep the airway open and unobstructed during sleep and requires open nasal passages to work properly. Nasal steroids are a prescription medication that can relieve those suffering from swollen nasal passages.

Instructions

    • 1

Visit your family doctor for a checkup to determine if nasal steroids are right for you. Your physician will make sure that your nasal symptoms are not part of any more serious condition that might require a pulmonary specialist. Your doctor might give you a prescription for nasal steroids.

    • 2

Clear your nasal passages as completely as possible before using the nasal steroid spray. Blowing your nose after a hot shower works well for many people.

    • 3

Insert the nasal applicator into each nostril and deliver the prescribed number of actuations. Use a tissue to catch any nasal dripping. Try not to blow your nose directly after using the spray.

    • 4

Apply your CPAP device as you normally would. If you are unable to breath properly through your nose at this time, consult your health care professional for additional treatment options.
