Bipap Filter Cap Installation

BiPAP, or bi-level positive airway pressure, is a method of providing respiratory support for patients with breathing difficulties. BiPAP machines are often used at home to prevent sleep apnea as well as for chronic pulmonary obstructive disease patients. Respironics, a unit of worldwide appliance and electronics manufacturer Philips, is the most commonly encountered brand of home BiPAP machine on the market. Respironics machines are designed so that you or your caregiver can easily maintain them. Installing the filter cap after you replace a filter is a very simple task for all models of Respironics BiPAP machines.

Instructions

  1. Rear Filter Models

    • 1

Make sure the power switch on your BiPAP machine is off, and unplug the power cord. Turn the unit around so that the rear panel faces you.

    • 2

Slide your filter or filters into the recess at the bottom of the panel. Depending on the model of machine you are using, you may be able to use both an ultra-fine and a regular filter. If so, place the ultra-fine filter under the regular gray filter provided with your machine and slide both of them into the filter compartment together.

    • 3

Line up the filter cap so that the small opening on the cap is facing downward. Place the tabs at the bottom of the cap into the notches at the bottom of the filter compartment.

    • 4

Press down on the top of the filter cap to engage the tabs at the top of the cap with the notches at the top of the filter compartment.

    • 5

Let go of the top of the cap so that the cap snaps into place.

    • 6

Plug the power cord back in and use the unit according to your health care provider's instructions.

    Front Filter Models

    • 7

Turn off and unplug your BiPAP machine.

    • 8

Center a new, white, disposable filter over the filter holder frame at the front of the unit.

    • 9

Push the button in the center of the filter compartment in so that the filter holder frame opens. Tuck all four sides of the new filter into the frame opening.

    • 10

Release the button and make sure that the filter is securely affixed to the frame. Repeat Step 3 if necessary.

    • 11

Insert the bottom edge of the front cap, known as the "Whisper Cap," into the gap behind the inner bottom edge of the filter frame.

    • 12

Align the top of the cap with the top of the filter frame. Press down on the top edge of the cap and push it into the gap behind the inner top edge of the frame until it snaps into place.

    • 13

Press down on the center of the cap to make sure it is properly seated. The cap snaps more firmly into the frame when you press on the center.

    • 14

Plug in your BiPAP machine and use it according to your health care provider's directions.
