How to Adjust the Resmed Autoset Vantage of an S8 II

The ResMed S8 Escape II is a continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) machine. CPAP machines are designed to provide a steady flow of air into the breathing passage while a person sleeps to prevent choking during sleep. It is prescribed specifically to treat obstructive sleep apnea. However useful, getting accustomed to a CPAP machine can be difficult for novices. The Escape II S8's auto-set function seeks to help with this. Users can adjust the machine's ramping time to slowly increase the machine's flow of air. An additional function lets users lower air flow pressure upon exhalation for easier expiratory relief.

Instructions

  1. Set Up the S8 II

    • 1

Put the Resmed Escape S8 II's power cord into the inlet at the rear of the unit. Plug the other end of the power cord into an electrical outlet.

    • 2

Locate the tube-shaped connecting outlet on the lower front right side of the ResMed Escape S8 II. The machine comes with an air tube that fits over this outlet and an air mask.

    • 3

Slide one end of the air tube over the machine's outlet and assemble the other end to the tubular end of the air mask.

    • 4

Power on the machine. Push the "Start/Stop" button to the bottom left of the machine's air tube. The machine's keys and liquid crystal display (LCD) back-light will illuminate.

    Auto-Set Ramping Time

    • 5

Auto-set the ResMed S8 II's ramping time to adjust air flow. Ramping time can be set in intervals of five minutes up to the maximum time prescribed by your physician. If you set your time to five minutes, the ResMed S8 II will increase the air flow every five minutes before the highest air flow is delivered. This gives users more time to fall asleep before the prescribed air flow is reached.

    • 6

Push the button with up arrow to increase the ramping time. Alternately, push the button with the down arrow to decrease the ramping time.

    • 7

Check the LCD screen for your chosen ramping time interval.

    • 8

Push the "Start/Stop" button when the desired time interval appears. The LCD screen will then display the word "ramping." This means your air flow time is being set. When auto-set is finished, the ramping interval time will display in the right corner of the LCD.

    Expiratory Pressure Relief

    • 9

Program expiratory pressure relief (EPR). It will let you exhale easier without air flowing into your air passage. You can only program EPR when the machine is in standby ramp mode.

    • 10

Check for the ramping time interval in the right corner of the LCD screen. When this is available, the Escape S8 II is in standby ramp mode.

    • 11

Push the button to the right of the up and down arrow buttons. It is marked with a horizontal line button and will activate the LCD menu.

    • 12

Push the down arrow button until the words, "EPR LEVEL," show on the LCD screen. Push the button marked with a horizontal-line again.

    • 13

Push the up or down arrow buttons until your desired EPR level shows on the LCD screen.

    • 14

Push the horizontal-line button a final time to set the EPR level.
