What causes supination?

* Genetics: Some people are simply born with a tendency to supinate. This may be due to the shape of their feet, their joint alignment, or their muscle tone.

* Muscle imbalances: Weak or tight muscles in the feet, ankles, or calves can lead to supination. For example, if the calf muscles are too tight, they can pull the heel bone into a supinated position.

* Footwear: Wearing shoes that are too narrow or have a high heel can put pressure on the feet and cause them to supinate.

* Injury: A foot or ankle injury can damage the ligaments and tendons that support the arch and lead to supination.

* Medical conditions: Certain medical conditions, such as arthritis or diabetes, can cause the feet to weaken and supinate.
