How common is restless legs syndrome?
Restless legs syndrome (RLS) is a relatively common neurological condition estimated to affect around 10% of the adult population worldwide, with varying degrees of severity. It is characterised by an irresistible urge to move the legs, and sometimes arms, often accompanied by uncomfortable sensations. RLS is more prevalent among women than men, with higher prevalence in older age groups. It is also commonly experienced during pregnancy. However, the severity and frequency of RLS symptoms can differ greatly from person to person.
