Initial Symptoms of Rheumatoid Arthritis
-
Identification
-
Rheumatoid arthritis occurs when the synovial membrane, which protects and lubricates the joints, becomes inflamed.
Morning
-
The first sign of rheumatoid arthritis is stiffness in the joints upon waking.
Symmetry
-
Joint pains usually occur in pairs; if one wrist experiences pain, the other will as well.
Visibility
-
Eventually, the patient recognizes stiffness and joint pain. Redness or swelling around the joints occurs, causing tenderness when touched.
Other Symptoms
-
Flu-like symptoms such as fatigue, fever, loss of appetite and muscle aches affect some rheumatoid arthritis sufferers.
