Natural Treatments for Skin Discoloration
-
Sun Exposure
-
Depending on which skin condition you are treating, either limit your time in the sun or expose your skin more often. For example, a freckle is created by melanin in your skin, and exposure to sunlight can increase melanin production. To decrease the appearance of freckles, you will want to spend less time in the sun. On the other hand, brief exposure to sunlight can improve the appearance of psoriasis. Whatever the case, always limit your exposure to sunlight and use sunscreen. An excessive amount of sun exposure can lead to skin cancer.
Lemon Juice
-
Lemon juice is a natural exfoliant and skin lightener. It can be used to improve the appearance of not only freckles but acne as well. It can be applied at full strength to any blemishes or freckles at night, and should not be rinsed off until morning. People with sensitive skin may want to dilute the lemon juice with water.
Vitamin C
-
According to smartskincare.com, vitamin C plays an important role in increasing the production of collagen. Collagen is necessary for skin to look supple and healthy. The vitamin is also an antioxidant, and when applied directly to skin can diminish the appearance of wrinkles and help create an overall even appearance of the skin tone.
Oatmeal
-
Oatmeal is often used to soothe the skin after discoloration occurs following something like a sunburn or minor rash. It can be mixed with water, yogurt, milk, lemon juice or olive oil and be applied as a mask to the affected area. Oatmeal can also be added to bath water for a soothing bath. Note that oatmeal can only help ease the discomfort and help lessen any reddening. It does not cure anything. If a sunburn or rash gets worse or is severe, seek medical attention immediately.
