How to Use Carmex to Prevent Cold Sores

Carmex is a medicated lip balm thought to treat cold sores by applying a medicine to the sore and moisturizing the area. Carmex doesn't claim to be the cure for cold sores, because cold sores can flare-up at any time and the Herpes virus has no known cure. However, may people believe you can speed up the healing process using Carmex.

  Clean your lip where the cold sore is located. Ensure that you don't remove the crust on top of the cold sore. The crust forms when the sore begins to heal; removing it accidentally will cause the sore to be exposed again.

  Apply a pea-sized amount of Carmex to the lip. Spread it all over, but put extra on the cold sore. Carmex contains ingredients that moisturize the lips and heal the sore.

  Reapply Carmex every two to three hours. Ensure that the cold sore is always covered with Carmex.

  Use Carmex regularly to prevent dry and cracked lips.
