How to Apply Duac Topical Gel

While acne is not a dangerous medical condition. It can cause scarring to the affected areas and emotional issues. Teens and young adults are prone to acne and according to Hilary Baldwin, M.D., an associate professor of dermatology with the State University of New York, "Several studies have shown that acne sufferers can experience everything from decreased self-esteem and problems with body image to depression and anger." Using Duac topical gel can relieve acne in some patients. Duac is a drug and will need to be prescribed by your physician.

      Talk to your doctor about the specific instructions for applying Duac topical gel. Depending on the severity of your acne and other drugs you are taking, you may have to apply the Duac gel more than once a day. The standard dosage is one application per day, in the evening. Do not use other acne medications while using Duac gel.

      Wash the affected area as recommended by your doctor. Your doctor may have you wash using only water, a medicated wash or a mild soap. Use warm water and gentle motions. Scrubbing your skin hard is not recommended with acne. Use a dry cloth, and pat the area dry.

      Apply a very thin layer of Duac gel over the affected areas. Take care to avoid the eyes, inside of your nose and lips or any other mucous membranes. Wash your hands after you apply the Duac gel.

      Leave the gel on the affected areas for the amount of time specified by your physician. Rinse the area with warm water to remove the Duac gel, and pat the area dry.
