Noxzema Used for Skin Care

Noxzema was created in 1911 and was a well-known brand of cleansing cream before it all but disappeared from store shelves. In 2008, however, new parent company Alberto Culver reintroduced the iconic formula as well as adding several new skincare products to the Noxzema line.
  1. Sunburn Relief

    • A physician named Robert Townsend originally developed Noxzema for the sole purpose of treating sunburns. He used natural linseed and soybean oils as a formula base to soothe dry skin and added menthol as a cooling agent as well as camphor for mild pain relief.

    Cleansing and Moisturizing

    • Beginning in the 1960s, women began using the same formula as a medicated cream to deep clean and moisturize the skin. The base oils in Noxzema dissolve make-up, while the eucalyptus and camphor help keep the face blemish-free due to their anti-bacterial and antiseptic properties.

    Treating Acne

    • According to Complete Aromatherapy Handbook, the essential oil of eucalyptus effectively treats skin concerns such as boils and pimples. Owing to this fact, sister brand Cover Girl Cosmetics has incorporated Noxzema's antibacterial ingredients into its line of makeup targeted at teenage girls and young women.

    Noxzema Products

    • Currently, you can choose from several Noxzema formulations including Original Clean cream or makeup removal cloths, Triple Clean in anti-blemish pads and lathering cleanser or Clean Blemish Control in foaming wash and daily scrub.
